Causes of World War I BBetween 1843-1907 peace congresses convened regularly in Europe leading many to believe that progress had made war a thing of the past! BBy 1914 this belief comes crashing down as the world plunges into “The Great War”—The war to end all wars. Why? TToday’s analogy will be focusing on the 4 “MAIN” causes of the WWI and their comparison to 4 lit matches.

Nationalist movements within Austro-Hungarian Empire Ethnic rivalries & power interests Look at map on pg. 842 and answer following questions The red stripes on the map represent Slavic groups in the area. List the countries on the map which have Slavic groups in them. Based on the map why might Serbia have staked a claim to Bosnia & Herzegovina. The Balkan Peninsula: “The Powder Keg of Europe”
