2. Is Patriarchy to blame?  Define patriarchy  Name cultures with patriarchal underpinnings  What about matriarchy…does it exist?  Why might we need to discuss it regarding domestic and family violence?

Cultural Beliefs and Values  Are there cultures where there isn’t violence in the home?  Are there cultures where there is more violence in the home than in the U.S.?  Examples: India (dowry murders) China (limits on number of children, girls) Middle East (for adultery, rape blaming) Latin America, others?

4. How should we handle cultural differences in the U.S.  You’ve examined state laws: is culture a defense? Should it be?  Are there ‘gray areas?’  Is removal always an improvement?  Are some children more valued than others in America?
