2 LET’S VISIT PLACES OF HISTORIC INTEREST IN LONDON. London is the capital of Great Britain. London is more than 2000 years old. London is one of the largest cities in the world. London is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

3 St.Paul’s Cathedral St. Paul’s Cathedral is the main cathedral in London. It was designed by Christopher Wren in the 17th century.

4 The Tower

5 It was a fortress, a castle, a royal palace and a prison. Now it’s a museum. There are a lot of interesting collections in The Tower of London.

6 Traditions of the Tower: befeaters and 8 ravens Now Beefeaters work as guides. They show people around and tell stories about the Tower. Beefeaters take care of the ravens and guard the Tower.

7 The Tower Bridge Built in 1894 the Tower Bridge has become one of the symbols of London.

8 Westminster Abbey Westminster Abbey is the ancient church. The oldest part of the building dates back to the 8 th century. British kings, queens and other famous people are buried here. British monarchs are crowned in Westminster Abbey.

9 BUCKINGHAM PALACE was built in 1830. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have a suite of about 12 rooms on the first floor.

10 The National Gallery and Nelson’s column are in Trafalgar Square

11 Trafalgar Square is the geographical centre of London. It was named in memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The tall Nelson’s Column stands in the middle of the square. The National Gallery was founded in1824. It has a fine collection of European paintings.
