GCSE ICT Introduction

How is the GCSE course organised? The GCSE course has three parts: Assignment (Year 10 project) - this section is set by the examination board and tests your abilities in a range of ICT skills. Project (Year 11 project) - this section is chosen by you and tests your abilities to focus on one piece of software in more detail. Examination - this will test your knowledge and understanding of ICT theory. There is one exam which is one and a half hours in length. It takes place at the end of Year 11.

Assignment – Year 10 Project This has 5 sections: - Analysis - 10 marks Describe the task I need to complete. Design - 25 marks Plan out my solution to the task. Implementation - 45 marks Create my solution to the task. Testing - 10 marks Make sure my solution works. Evaluation - 10 marks Decide whether my solution was effective or not. Total - 100 marks (worth 30% of your final GCSE grade)

Assessment & Tier of Entry The course is assessed as follows: Assignment (Year 10 project) 30% Project (Year 11 Project) 30% Examination 40% You will be entered for either the Foundation Paper or the Higher Paper based on your performance throughout the course.

Poor performance Some students will be entered for the short course if their coursework is not of the required standard. This is only worth half a GCSE!

To get you started Before we start the actual GCSE course we complete a short ‘Practise’ course. Why? To improve your skills of using key software effectively and get you used to the structure of coursework tasks. ‘Practise’ course - now until the end of October.

Creating a suitable folder structure You will need to be organised and so must learn to store your work logically. To help you do this you need to create suitable folder structure.
