2. What will we learn? We will learning about music from: Different times Different cultures Different styles. The GCSE Music is designed to ensure that you finish the course as a well-rounded musician.

3. How is the course made up? The course is split into three parts: Performing 30% (Recorded coursework) Composing 30% (Recording & Score) Listening 40% (90 min examination)

4. Performing One solo performance (15%) One group performance (15%) These will be recorded throughout the course

5. Composing One composition based on one Area of Study (15%) One composition based on another Area of Study (15%)

6. What are the Areas Of Study? There are 4 Areas of Study. Each Area of Study has 3 pieces of music. You will answer questions on these pieces for your examination at the end of Year 11.

7. So what are the Areas of Study? 1. Western Classical music 1600-1899 2. Music in the 20 th century 3. Popular music in context 4. World music

8. Listening We will be supplying the music tracks for you. If you have an mp3 player or phone that can play music, you should put the mp3 files on your device so that you can listen to the music at all times. You can get the files from me.

9. What do we need to learn first? First of all, we need to learn about musical literacy. Musical literacy is about being able to read music, and follow musical scores. It’s also about being able to pick features in the music, without the teacher’s help.
