What does a L&T repository do? Hosts any digital resource that can be used to support teaching and learning Provides “virtual objects” that reference materials (on and offline) held elsewhere Offers the same facilities as a library i.e. search, browse, locate, preview and borrow Offers additional facilities e.g. upload and publish, myLibrary and may package learning objects into assemblies of content Delivers learning objects/packages that can be played in a VLE, and resources for use by tutors e.g. lesson plans
13
Why a JISC repository service? Provides hosting service for JISC- funded content and pointers to content held on other servers Will work within the JISC Information Environment, especially with the HE Academy “Connect” service (L&T Portal) Part of a “landscape” of distributed repositories Promotes sharing, re-use and re- purposing of expensive content Stands as a national statement of the importance of creating interoperable, sustainable materials
