Matthew 25:1-13 - "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 "Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 "Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 "but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 "But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!‘ 7 "Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.

8 "And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 "But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' 10 "And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!‘ 12 "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.‘ 13 "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Obeying the doctrines of men will not make you ready. Just being a good moral person will not make you ready. Just attending a local church of Christ will not make you ready. (Matthew 15:1-9) (Luke 18:9-14) (I Corinthians 5:1-3)
6
Studying your Bible and an active prayer life. (II Timothy 2:15) Getting involved with the work of the church. Getting involved with serving and encouraging the brethren. (Ephesians 4:16) (I Thessalonians 5:15)
7
You cant borrow someone else’s oil! i.e. what you need to be ready. - Faith (Hebrews 11:6). - Conduct (I Timothy 4:12). - Holiness (I Peter 1:14-16). - Righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Jesus warned us that it is up to each one of us to be prepared.
8
When the door is shut indicates that things cannot be changed. - You no longer have the time (Matthew 25:1-13). - You no longer have the opportunity (Matt. 25:14-30). - You no longer have the choice (Matthew 25:31-33). Jesus again tells us that we are not to waste time, but to get ready and stay ready!
9
Jesus is giving us the time to make ready, but that time will come to an end (II Peter 3:9-10). Are you ready? Make ready by obeying the gospel: - Believe (John 8:24). - Repent (Luke 13:3). - Confess (Matthew 10:32-33). - Baptized (Mark 16:15-16). - Be Faithful (Revelation 2:10).
