11. Exodus Moses led the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt (Exodus). They traveled for 40 years, visiting places like Mt. Sinai where Moses received the Torah and Ten Commandments from God. They eventually arrived in Canaan (Israel), the land promised to the Jews by God in his Covenant to the Jewish people.

14. The Israelites were different from others living in the Fertile Crescent because they were Monotheists- they believed in only one God. The Hebrews built a strong nation they called Israel. Under the leadership of King David, Jerusalem became the capital and the site of a great temple built by Solomon. Today, Jerusalem is a center of religious and political life.
