2. Before we begin using our computers for internet use this semester, we will be learning the rules for the classroom. You will learn to be a good “citizen” of the online community. “DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP”

3. HERE ARE THE FIVE “RULES” YOU WILL ABIDE BY DURING YOUR COMPUTER USE: 1. USE NETIQUETTE 2. ABIDE BY COPYRIGHT AND FAIR USE 3. NO PLAGIARISM 4. USE SAFETY ON THE WEB 5. USE SAFETY ON YOUR COMPUTER

4. Netiquette is the same as etiquette, only “internet” etiquette. It is being courteous in online communications. I. NETIQUETTE

5.  Never use all caps lock in messages. IT LOOKS AS IF YOU ARE YELLING OR ANGRY!  You can use “smiley” or “sad” faces in messages to show emotion.  Use exclamation points carefully. You do not want to seem threatening!!!!  Use proper spelling and grammar.  Treat others as you would want to be treated.

6. Copyrights are a set of exclusive rights given to the creator of their original work. This includes the right to copy, distribute, and adapt the work. Fair Use is when the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, commenting, teaching, research, or for nonprofit educational purposes. II. COPYRIGHT AND FAIR USE

11. USE AVAILABLE SAFETY TOOLS SUCH AS FROM GOOGLE. NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION. DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING OR INSTALL SOFTWARE WITHOUT TEACHERS PERMISSION. NEVER SEND PHOTOS OF YOURSELF TO ANYONE WITHOUT PERMISSION. REPORT INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT. STAY AWAY FROM SPAM AND POP-UP ADVERTISEMENT ALWAYS SURF SAFELY!

12. Always be cautious of your personal computer use. Using public computers can be safe as long as you follow a few simple rules. V. SAFETY ON YOUR COMPUTER

13. 1.Do not save computer logon information. 2.Never write down your username or password. Memorize it! 3.Avoid opening any email attachments from unknown sources. 4.Use a firewall on your computer. Keep the firewall turned “on”. 5.Use an antivirus software and keep it updated.

14. REMEMBER, COMPUTERS CAN BE FUN, BUT WE HAVE TO BE RESPECTFUL AND TRY TO REMEMBER WHAT IT IS TO BE A “DIGITAL CITIZEN”. IT IS ALWAYS SAFER TO ASK IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT ANYTHING!
