W HO IS B ACH ? He was born in Eisenach, Germany, on March 21, 1685 He was the youngest child of Johann Ambrosius Bach and Elisabeth Lämmerhirt In 1965 both of Bach’s parents had died and he was looked over by his older brother Johann Christopher Bach

L ATER IN L IFE ? In 1723, Bach became Cantor of St. Thomas’s Church. During the last ten years of Bach’s life, his eyesight was poor, in very late years he was almost blind. Although Bach is known today as a composer, during his lifetime he was better known as a musician, mainly an organist

B ACH ‘ S L EGACY In obituary of Bach was published in 1754 by a former student in Musikalishche In Germany, many streets were named and statues were erected in honor of Bach during the twentieth century.
