35 Computer Engineering and Networks Technische Informatik und Kommunikationsnetze Prototype Strategy Try to make use of synergies between platforms: Testbed used for all projects. Use and extension of PermaSense base-station in Open- Sense (mobile air pollution measurements). Reuse of PermaSense sensor node in X-Sense (temperature, pressure, crack meters). Development of a new (modular) node concept to be used in PermaSense III (acoustics), X-Sense (location). Maybe Arm/Cortex-based (with energy scavenging)? The SwissEx data backend will be extended towards Open- Sense. Try to use this for PermaSense III and X-Sense or develop a new one that can be used for all projects.

39 Computer Engineering and Networks Technische Informatik und Kommunikationsnetze Organization cont. Use of shared infrastructure + individual research topics everyone has to invest in the shared infrastructure and take over responsibilities (web, deployments, testbed, lab, students) focused research topic should evolve after first third of PhD time Emphasize team-work with individual domains of expertise depending on each research focus Shared literature repo svn://svn.ee.ethz.ch/tecdoc/wsn/bibtex
