2 ENERGY DEPARTMENT- Functions  Implementation of Electricity Act and Electricity Rules.  Implementation of NEPRA Rules.  Implementation of Electricity Duty Rules.  Monitoring/Co-Ordination with QESCO and K-Electric on village electrification and implementation of power projects.  Reconciliation of electricity bills of Government connections, agriculture tube wells and water supply schemes being run by PHED and community.  Electrification through alternate energy sources.

7 18 th AMENDMENT Despite the fact that the Provinces had been given the power to generate electricity on their own, but they could not actually do it due to number of bottlenecks including; lack of expertise resources inability to provide sovereign guarantees to solicit international funding

8 ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED A well defined and comprehensive role of Provinces dealing with issues of electricity Consent of Provinces in Federal Government Sponsored Projects Making agreements simpler for Provinces to execute Power Projects Necessary amendments in Regulatory bodies and laws Long term planning with coordinated approach

9 FUTURE PLANNING  Installation of coal fired power plants on coal reserves in Balochistan  Installation of a Solar Power Plant at Kuchlak, Quetta with CK Solar (Korea)  Import of electricity from Islamic Republic of Iran  Generation of electricity from Wind in Nok Kundi and coastal areas of Balochistan.
