2 Configuration Aerodynamics Mirage 2000 2 Mirage 2000 family u Made by the French Dassault aviation. u First production for Military use - around 1982. u Many variations of the aircraft such as 2000B,C,D,E,N,R,S and 2000 3,4,5,8,9. u Different attack capabilities such as anti-radar missiles, air-surface missiles, in flight re-fueling, cluster and modular bombs. u Some like the 2000B are used as a trainer aircraft, 2000 N is for nuclear warheads. u Used by a large no. of countries in their airforce - Jane’s All the world aircraft

3 Configuration Aerodynamics Mirage 2000 3 Mirage Specifications u Wing span - 9.13 m Aspect ratio - 2.0 u Empty weight - 16,500 lbs u Max external store load - 13,800 lbs u max wing loading - 84.9 psf u max speed at level flight - 2.2 M u minimum speed for stable flight - 115 mph u max rate of climb - 56000 ft/min (at S/L) u Service ceiling - 54,000 ft to 60,000 ft. u overall length - 14.36 to 14.55 m - Jane’s All the world aircraft

4 Configuration Aerodynamics Mirage 2000 4 Delta wings u The Mirage is delta winged and does not possess canards. u High take-off and landing speeds and hence not for carriers. u High accelerations and maneuverability (360 0 in 15 secs), at the same time low speed stability provided. u Wings are low-mounted delta with clipped tips. 5 Configuration Aerodynamics Mirage 2000 5 Delta wings u Delta winged aircraft use a device called an elevon. It is a combination of ailerons and elevators. u Mirage 2000-5 has the following delta wings. 58 0 leading edge sweep, 3.5 0 trailing edge sweep. u Leading edge slats and elevons provided and controlled by fly-by-wire technology. u The fuselage is “Area ruled” and blended into the wing. - Aviation Week

Can fly at low speeds Recommended not of 115 mph. to fly below 150kt/hr Subsonic or low altitude High altitude maneuverability maneuverability (360 0 /13seconds) Upto 7g accelerations Can go up to 9g (9gs need pilot forcing) rapidly. -Interavia (1986)
