55
ANSWER: Earth’s rotation on its axis
56
QUESTION: Explain why the Poles are colder than the Equator. Include the angle and intensity of light.
57
ANSWER: The poles do not have as much direct sunlight as the equator due to the curve of the earth and therefore are colder. The equator is facing directly at the Sun.
58
QUESTION: Explain why winter is colder than summer. Include (1) the tilt of Earth’s axis and how the tilt affects (2) the angle and intensity of light and( 3) number of hours of daylight.
59
ANSWER: The tilt of the Earth’s axis makes one pole point towards the sun at a time. When the North Pole is tilted away from the sun, the Northern Hemisphere has winter. Therefore, the angle of sunlight is not as direct as it is in the summer and the sunlight is not as intense therefore making it colder. We also have less hours of daylight in the winter which also causes it to be colder.
