Lesson 10 Objective: Students will be able to examine stages of the hero’s journey in order to explain potential consequences should a hero refuse his/her “call to action.” Journal topic: Analyze the picture… Write a description including the setting, tone, and character.

5 The Consequences of Refusing the Call

7 The Odyssey The Odyssey begins with the fall of the city of Troy. It tells the story of a Greek warrior, Odysseus, and his nostos, or journey home, to northwest Greece after the Greek victory over the Trojans. The journey takes ten years, during which Odysseus and his men have many adventures. In this excerpt, they venture into the cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus and became trapped there. Odysseus must figure out a way to escape the cave alive.
