3 Handcarts Most made it to Utah safely Only one that had serious problems was the Martin and Willie companies. –Left late –280 of 980 people died of starvation

4 Down and Back Wagons “Utah Boys” went to Iowa to pick up immigrants Was exciting escape for the young men Often became suitors to the immigrating women.

5 Features of Utah Settlements Streets in grid pattern Wide streets with irrigation ditches Large city blocks, 4 acres+ In center of town was for public things, such as churches and parks Farmers on the outskirts

8 Railroads in Utah ► No longer isolated ► Corinne, Utah brought a lot of other faiths to Utah. ► Mining became possible with the railroad now in Utah.
