1 Teacher Example – Late Start Notes Chart Your point of view? I oppose starting school later to help students be less tired in school. Arguments to support your point of view? Students and schedules will be negatively affected. Many students have sports, clubs, jobs, or might be involved in running start. Arguments to support opposing point of view? Proponents say that, genetically, teenagers need more sleep and therefore school should start later.

2 Later Start Time Hi, I am here to discuss my opinion on the school board’s proposition to set back the start time of the upper level schools. I believe that the school board should not change the start of the school day. The negative impact to the students and the scheduling system would outweigh any benefits gained by the later start time. Students who are involved in running start, extra curricular activities, or have after school jobs would be heavily affected by the later start time because the students would be getting out of school much later. I know there are many who believe that starting school later would really help the success of many students. Their strongest argument is that the students would be more rested and therefore be able to focus better in schools. I see their point, but I feel, that if students are not rested enough for school, then they need to get to bed earlier. If the start time is set back for them, then they will just stay up later and still be tired with the new time. To me, it’s a matter of responsibility, not genetics. Thank you Otterboy Jones, MD.
