1 7 th Grade Graphic Arts 2015-1016 Syllabus Williams Middle School Ms. Henderson Course Outline:  Elements and Principles of Art  Drawing techniques/skills  Perspective  Art History/Cultural Art/Artist Biographies  Color theory  Printmaking  Collage  3D Art forms Course Description: This course is designed to introduce students to the Elements and Principles of design through art production, critique, and art history. Students will produce two and three dimensional art through various techniques. Safety and proper storage of art supplies will also be taught. Required Materials  Each student is required to purchase a sketchbook for daily sketchbook assignments. The sketchbook can be any brand, however it must be the same size as a standard spiral notebook (8.5x11)  Three prong folder  Number 2 wooden pencil  Pink Eraser Course Outline:  Elements and Principles of Art  Drawing techniques/skills  Perspective  Art History/Cultural Art/Artist Biographies  Color theory  Printmaking  Collage  3D Art forms *Units covered subject to change

2 Expectations:  Bring a sketchbook, folder, computer, pencil, and eraser to class everyday  Be seated and working on bell ringer by the time the bell rings  Keep a positive attitude  Respect each other, the teacher, and the materials that are provided.  Clean up work area before the end of class Assessments: Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:  10% Homework (sketchbook assignment, research assignments)  30% Class Assignments (bell ringer, formative assessments)  60% Summative Assessment (portfolio, unit tests, pop quizzes)  Projects will be graded based upon a rubric which allows the students to see exactly how their grade is determined and in which areas they may be able to improve the projects over-all grade Course Objective: By the end of this course, students will be able to identify which elements and principles are used in artwork as well as create artwork using various techniques.

5 Meet the Teacher!! Welcome!! Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I am super excited that I have the opportunity to work with your student this year and create some fun artwork. I look forward to getting to know both you and your student! About Me I grew up in Madison and moved to Florence after graduating from Bob Jones to attend the University of North Alabama to study Art Education. I grew up knowing I wanted to become a teacher, and later discovered my love for Art. Other than being crafty and creating art, I enjoy spending time with my sweet little family of 4, the occasional Netflix binge, Pinterest, and SEC football. This is my first year teaching at Williams and I am so excited to be a Williams Hawk! Parent Involvement I genuinely believe that parent involvement and communication in the classroom is extremely important in regards to student achievement. I want to be as transparent as possible with you and keep you involved in what is going on inside the Art room. I will be sending a monthly newsletter to keep you all up to date about what your student is learning and projects they are working on. Also, I will be providing several opportunities for parents to come help out in the art room if at all interested! I have attached a questionnaire for you to fill out along with the syllabus. Students who return their signed syllabus by Tuesday, August 11, will receive 5 bonus points on their final grade. Students who bring back the signed syllabus along with the filled out parent questionnaire will receive 15 bonus points on their final grade!
