Dennis paid $20 for a tub of breath mints and $30 for a year’s supply of chap stick. If tax was 7%, how much did Dennis pay? Price: $20 + $30 = $50 Tax: $50 0.07 = $3.50 Final Cost = Price + Tax $50 + $3.50 = $53.50

GRE 201: Identify the location of a point with a positive coordinate on the number line GRE 301: Locate points on the number line and in the first quadrant GRE 401: Locate points in the coordinate plane GRE 402: Comprehend the concept of length on the number line*

0 1 23 -2 -3 -2 -3 1 2 3 Each number refers to the line, NOT the space in between the lines. Every number represents the same number of spaces in the x and y-axes.
6
0 1 23-2-3 -2 -3 1 2 3 NO!!! Each number in both the x and y-axes must equal the same number of spaces.
7
0 1 2 3-2-3 -2 -3 1 2 3 No, each number is attached to the line, not the space in between the line!
8
0 1 2 -2 1 2 Yes!!! Each number is evenly spaced on both the x and y-axes.
9
0 1 2 3-2-3 -2 -3 1 2 3 No, the space between 0 and 1 is not the same as between 1 and 2.

Coordinate points are also called ordered pairs. They tell the location of the point on a coordinate plane. They are written (x, y), where the ‘x’ coordinate represents the location along the x-axis and the ‘y’ coordinate represents the location along the y- axis.

0 1 23 -2 -3 -2 -3 1 2 3 To locate a point, you begin counting at the origin..A.A You move along the x- axis first. In this case, we moved two places to the right, or +2. Next, move along the y-axis. In this case, we moved three places up, or +3. The location of point A is therefore (2, 3)!

0 1 23 -2 -3 -2 -3 1 2 3. (-2, 4) (x, y) We find -2 on the x- axis first. Next, we move up 4 spaces on the y-axis. Here I am!
