Overall Observations
27
Challenges Student Educational Culture Time and Effort Institutional Hurdles
28
Student Educational Culture Not used to accountability in class Resistance to the unexpected and comfortable Preparedness – must view podcasts! Teaching = Content Delivery
29
Student Educational Culture “A disadvantage maybe that I feel like....? not learning everything I should be because the teacher isn’t actually teaching me.”
30
Student Educational Culture “A disadvantage maybe that I feel like....? not learning everything I should be because the teacher isn’t actually teaching me.”
31
Time and Effort Additional time to create podcasts First 10 minute podcast took 2 hours to create Got better from there – was down to ½ hour Time to upload and distribute podcast Anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours per podcast Support Materials? Thinking of a new activity at times was hard Felt like “gimmicks”
32
Institutional Hurdles Bureaucracy Not set up to meet your technological needs Don’t understand what you are doing Teaching Excellence Centres Have heard about the flipped classroom Don’t understand what your are doing Don’t understand the technology Webspace/IT What do you mean you just want space? Resources (non technical) Love the idea of “student” engagement Don’t understand resource demands needed Can’t think outside of “sage on stage” model
