1. TITLE I ANNUAL PARENT MEETING ROGERSVILLE CITY SCHOOL

3. TITLE I TITLE I-is the largest federal aid program for elementary and middle schools. Through Title I, the Federal government gives money to school districts based on the number of low-income families in each district. Each district uses its Title I money for extra educational services for children who are behind in school.

4. HIGH STANDARDS All students should work toward the same high standards. Title I’s jobs is to provide help to students who need it to make sure they reach the same standards as everyone else in their school. Standards describe what students should know and be able to do at each grade level.

5. PARENTS Local schools and parents know best what their students need to succeed. Title I allows them to decide how to use Title I money to help students who are behind. Parents are partners in helping all students achieve. Parents have the right to be involved in the design and operation of their school’s Title I program. Parents also have a responsibility to help their children succeed in school.

6. Title I at RCS  RCS received $126,224 for Title I for the 2011- 12 school year. The money will be used to :  Train teachers and other staff  Buy equipment and learning materials  Support parent involvement activities  Hire teachers to help with reading and math

7. SCHOOL-WIDE TITLE I RCS is a School-wide Title I school because more than half of our students are low-income. All students at RCS receive Title I services.

8. How can Title I money help me as a parent? Title I money can be used for many types of parent involvement activities:  Family literacy  Parent meetings and trainings  Materials that parents can use to work with their children at home  Parent resource center

9. How can parents help? Parents can help their children be more successful by teaching them ways that add to what the teacher is doing….by learning more about their school….and by supporting their children and the school….and by making decisions about their children’s education.

10. Here are some ways to help: Find out what your child is supposed to learn to meet the standards for his or her grade level. Find out what your child is being taught Find out how the Title I program is helping your child meet the standards Keep in close touch with your child’s teacher Make sure your child does his or her homework Attend parent-teacher conferences Talk with your child about school Become a school volunteer Join your local Academic Booster’s Club (ABC) Join the Parent Advisory Council

11. How can I help RCS’s Title I program?  You can help plan or review RCS’s Title I program.  You can help develop RCS’s plans for how parents and schools can work together (Parent Involvement Policy and compact).

12. RCS Curriculum Students in grades K-2 use the Common Core Standards as adopted by Tennessee. Students in grades K-2 are assessed by using Aims Web and NWEA. Students in grades 3-8 use the Tennessee State Standards. Students in grades 3-8 are assessed by using T-Cap.

13. Proficiency levels for T-Cap Below Basic- Students have not demonstrated mastery in academic performance and are not prepared for the next level of study. Basic- Students who perform at this level demonstrate partial mastery in academic performance and are minimally prepared for the next level of study. Proficient- Students who perform at this level demonstrate mastery in academic performance and are prepared for the next level of study. Advanced- Students who perform at this level demonstrate superior mastery in academic performance and are significantly prepared for the next level of study.

14. Parent Involvement Plan The Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) must be updated yearly, distributed to parents, and describe the ongoing activities that are held throughout the school year.

15. Parent School Compact This is an agreement between the students, parents, and the teachers that outlines each parties responsibility for supporting student learning.

16. Assessing Parental Involvement At the end of the school year, parents will have an opportunity to assess parent involvement by completing a survey. The survey gives parents a voice and a chance to share their recommendations for improving the School wide Title I Program. This survey will be reviewed by the Parent Advisory Council.

17. Providing Training Opportunities RCS will provide training to parents to promote education of the child at school and at home. These trainings will include specific methods parents can use at home to complement their children’s education toward reaching our school wide goals.

18. Annual Review Meeting This is an annual review of the entire school wide program. Data about the school wide program, its implementation, student achievement data, parent survey data, and demographic data will be reviewed. This data will help RCS measure the success of the school wide plan in terms of how well it is being implemented and its impact on student achievement.

19. Parent’s Right to Know All parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers. Please submit all request in writing to Mr. William Walker.

20. Students being taught by highly qualified staff If a child is being taught for four consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet the federal definition of highly qualified, parents must be notified.

21. Notifying Parents on Limited English Proficiency Parents must be notified if their child is placed in a program for LEP students.

23. Parent Advisory Council We need parents to be part of our Parent Advisory Council (PAC). The first meeting for the PAC will be August 17, 2011 from 1:30-2:45 in the board room. All parents are invited to attend.
