What is a hurricane? A hurricane is a powerful storm.
A hurricane is made up of lots of little storms in the ocean. Hurricane winds can be 185 mph and get up to 375 mph

Where do hurricanes form?
Hurricanes form in the middle of the ocean. Hurricanes hit the coast. A lot of hurricanes hit Florida and some hit North Carolina.

When do hurricanes happen?
There are hurricanes every year. Most hurricanes happen between May and November. This is called the hurricane season.

The eye In the middle of the hurricane there is a blue spot. That is called the eye. The eye is the calmest part. Most eyes are miles across. When the eye hits the coast it is called making landfall.

What should you do if there is a hurricane?
You should stay inside. You should wait inside until the hurricane is over. You may have to evacuate your house if you live next to the beach.
