Badger class visit to Lullingstone Roman Villa We had a lovely day at one of the most outstanding Roman villa survivals in Britain. We were taken by a convoy of parents (in torrential rain) to the beautiful Darent Valley to visit the villa. We learnt that the villa was begun in about AD 100, and developed to suit the tastes and beliefs of successive wealthy owners, reaching its peak of luxury in the mid-4th century. We viewed the spectacular mosaics and prints of the rare wall paintings, a heated bath-suite and a ‘house-church’. We enjoyed a video and light show which brought the villa to life, and galleries display Lullingstone’s fascinating collection of Roman artefacts. We had a brilliant presentation where we learnt about life in Roman times. We tried on Roman costumes and completed various tasks to find out more about the villa and the people who lived there.
