1 The Lenni-Lenape Chapter “The National English Honor Society (NEHS), founded and sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is the only national organization exclusively for high school students and faculty who, in the field of English, merit special note for past and current accomplishments” (www.nehs.us).

4 Motto The NEHS motto, "gelast sceal mid are," is Old English for: "duty goes with honor." The motto represents one of the earliest forms of our language- -it affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one's gifts in service to others. Service to peers, school, and community are part and parcel of the NEHS mission--and, indeed, in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, "duty" actually precedes "honor.“ (www.nehs.us)

6 Faculty Advisory Council English teachers, librarians, guidance counselors and principals who participate in the development of, and periodically review, all local selection and dismissal procedures, chapter bylaws, and proposed chapter activities.

7 Membership Requirements 1)Class standing as a junior or senior 2)Overall English cumulative GPA no less than a 3.65 and an overall GPA of at least 3.5. 3)Recommendation of current English teacher 4)Signatures/recommendations of at least one other academic teacher, a guidance counselor and the grade level principal 5)English grades: Must have taken at least one AP or Honors class in your four years of high school. Academic classes- nothing lower than an A Accelerated classes- nothing lower than a B+ Honors/AP classes- nothing lower than a B+ Participation Requirements: 1)Must attend at least 5 events per school year 2)Must attend at least 2 writing labs per full school year 3)Must turn in a copy of report card each semester

8 Membership Requirements Cont. Members are required to maintain academic eligibility for each marking period that they are active Should your grade/GPA drop below the minimum, you will receive a letter and be put on probation for the ensuing marking period Should your grade/GPA remain below the minimum, your case will go before the faculty review panel to determine whether you maintain membership or not. You could be removed from membership or you could be given a timeline to repair your grade/GPA. Members are required to maintain a clean behavioral record Any minor behavioral infractions are subject to written warning on the first incident, probation on the second, removal on the third Any major infraction will result in a meeting of the faculty advisory council to determine a course of action Members may not at any time violate the school’s academic integrity policy Should a member be found in violation of the academic integrity policy, he/she is subject to immediate removal from membership per Article XIII of the National Constitution

9 Application Timelines February 5, 2013- Meeting after school for all interested students, go over application guidelines and membership responsibility, hand out application packets February 14, 2013- Application packets due in Room 217E February 25, 2013- Faculty Advisory Council meeting to review applicants February 28, 2013- Letters of Acceptance go out (this date is tentative based on number of applications received…we may move it to the next week if the number is very large)
