Warm Up…  Place your backpacks along the back wall  Grab your pencil, notebook, agenda, scissors, glue, and homework  Grab your warm up sheet from the back counter  Begin working on Wednesday’s warm up (DO NOT WORK AHEAD )

6.P.2. Matter Standard  In this unit our objective is to:  Recognize that all matter is made up of atoms and atoms of the same element are all alike, but are different from the atoms of other elements  Where is this objective in our room?

Choice Board Activities (15 mins. only) Review Today  We will review Stations 1 – 6 now in class  You have 15 minutes to complete any activity you did not finish Tuesday

Station 1  Notes on Matter --- any questions!

Station 2  Ed Helper “Atoms”

Station 3 Graphic Organizer  I will read each word….then you will tell me if it is an example of ….. Matter or Non-Matter

Station 4 “Why Does Matter Matter” fill in the blank  As I read each statement, raise your hand if you know the answer to fill in the blank!

Station 5 “What’s The Matter”  I will read each question….then a volunteer will read their answer written in a complete sentence

Station 6 “Atoms and Molecules”  I will read each question….then a volunteer will read their answer written in a complete sentence

Station 7: Bill Nye…the Science Guy  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wIc1LOEvuA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wIc1LOEvuA  Write these questions down and listen to the video for the answers…  1. Can we see an atom with our eyes?  2. What is the middle of an atom called?  3. What are atoms mostly made of?

Summary of Matter Video – watch and listen  Video on atoms and molecules  Source: https://www.educreations.com/lesson/view/introduction-to-matter/1730652/ End at 2:30 min mark

Vocabulary Activity  You will receive a handout now for vocabulary….  We will review this now  You will be completing this activity in the hallway so you must work quietly so we do not disturb other classrooms

Popcorn Reading  You will receive a handout now  We will popcorn read this aloud in the classroom

Notes on Atoms…  smallest building blocks of matter  too small for us to see with our eyes  Scientists must use special tools to see atoms

Notes on Elements….  made from same kind of atoms  can not be broken down further  pure substances

notes on elements…  scientists have identified over 100 naturally occurring elements  Turn in your agenda now to your periodic table

Let’s try to find some common elements now…
