Lecture: Catalyst Chemical Reactions
3
Catalyst: A chemical that changes the rate of a reaction by making it go faster. The catalyst does not take part in the reaction and is still present when the reaction is complete. What is a catalyst?
4
A catalyst works by providing a convenient surface on which the reactants collide more frequently. How does the catalyst work?
5
ABC AB + C ABC is a reactant. AB and C are the products. Catalyst
6
Factors that can enhance a chemical reaction: 1. Increase the temperature of the reactants. 2. Increase the surface area of the reactants. (Make a solid into a finer powder). 3. Increase the concentration of the reactants. 4. Adding a catalyst.
7
Inhibitors: A chemical that is used to slow down a chemical reaction. An example would be the use of food preserves.
