1 Dec. 5 - 7, 2005TTC Meeting, Frascati1 Program for WG1

2 Dec. 5 - 7, 2005TTC Meeting, Frascati2 Talks Short history of EP (1970-1990)P. Kneisel What we should know, but forgot Summary report of EP discussion at SMTF meeting at FNALT.Tajima Update of DESY experience with EPA. Matheisen Expereince at KEK with EPK. Saito EP activities within the CARE programA. Matheisen? Update on HPR activities at INFN MilanoP. Michelato Update in Dry Ice cleaningD. Reschke If time allows and there is some interest: Update on large grain cavity activities at DESYW. Singer Update on large grain cavity activities at JlabP. Kneisel

3 Dec. 5 - 7, 2005TTC Meeting, Frascati3 Discussion Topics EP Parameters: Constant voltage vs const. current, current density, operations voltage, bath temperature, acid flow rate, anode rotational speed. aging of bath (HF concentration, dissolved Nb, composition degradation) Others: uniformity of material removal, shaping and shielding of electrodes, avoidence of Q- disease (cathode bag, acid level, HNO 3 addition), QA during EP (“online” polarisation curves and HF concentration) Contamination control ( sulfur, others, draining of acid, rinsing: hot UP water, diluted H 2 O 2,anodizing/oxipolishing, materials)….., when to start/stop application of voltage Questions: Should the community explore other EP bath compostions or make present composition “fool proof”? `How can the output of multi-cell cavity tests be increased? Is it worthwhile and possible to share facilities and testing? Are mutli-cell cavities behaving differently during EP than single cells? What can we learn from simulation calculations (DESY purchased program)? Is more input from “electro-chemistry professionals” needed? Do we need more surface science to understand contamination? And if so, where and who?

4 Dec. 5 - 7, 2005TTC Meeting, Frascati4 Charge to WG1 Reducing the scatter of high-gradient EP Cavities Analysis of measured results To what extent do we understand the scatter of the results List and prioritise R&D activities Identify resources to work on these activities Describe schedule milestones Coordinate joint efforts
