Traceability: What is traceability? Competent transfer of traceability from a Standard to the device under test. CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005
2
Traceability: How do you evaluate traceability? Was a recognized method used to perform the calibration? Was the calibration performed by an individual who has been trained and found competent to perform the calibration? CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005
3
Traceability: How do you evaluate traceability? Was the ‘standard’ used in the calibration traceable through an unbroken chain of calibrations to the SI system of units? Has the uncertainty of measurement been estimated, and stated on the certificate? CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005
4
Purpose: The purpose a calibration certificate is to provide pertinent information to the user about: The identity and information about the laboratory performing the Calibration (Name, and Address and the location where the calibration was carried out) CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005
5
Purpose: Identification of the method used to perform the calibration (Own method, International Standard, Manufacturers recommended procedure) Identification of the device calibrated The measurement results, CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005
6
Purpose: Identification and signature of persons authorizing the certificate, (If requested) a statement that the complies with specification. The environmental conditions, The uncertainty of measurement, Evidence of the traceability. CALIBRATION CERTIFICATES : ISO/IEC 17025:2005

What to look for: If the certificate does not include the SANAS logo (or a statement that the laboratory is accredited by SANAS) along with the accreditation number of the laboratory then the certificate has not been issued in terms of their accreditation. Contract Review: How do you choose a Calibration Service provider: Are they accredited? Are they accredited for the specific measurements and applicable range? Is the Laboratories Measurement Capability (BMC) satisfactory for your purposes? Are you discussing YOUR requirements with the laboratory or are they telling you what YOU want?

The SANAS Home Page
13
Select Accredited Facilities from the top menu bar
14
Choose Directory of Accredited Facilities from LHS Menu
15
Select Calibration Laboratories
16
A list of all accredited Calibration Laboratories will appear
17
The search can be refined: Select Dimensional Laboratories And then select a laboratory
18
The Laboratory details are provided. Then to view the schedule of accreditation link to the schedule
