(1) b. Write down 2 physical benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. (2) c. Describe how the media can have a positive influence on the physical activity you choose to do. (1) d. Describe 3 factors that influence participation in physical activity. (6) You have 7 minutes.

Coaches or Team Captains Discussion Task You have 2 minutes to discuss with the person next to you, what qualities makes a good coach or team captain? Can you think of a good example? Participant This is somebody who actually takes part in the sport! They need to have: o A keen interest in sport o Be physically able to take part

Qualities of a good Coach or Team Captain To be a good Team Captain or Coach: you need to be able to LEAD you need to be Enthusiastic about you sport you need to be able to Motivate others

Captain – a player that leads a team A good captain will possess the following qualities: Highly skilled in their sport Perform well under pressure Role Model to others Organised e.g. organise others during a game Decisive e.g. make decisions on how to arrange fielders during a game of cricket

Coach – a non player that’s in charge of training a team A good coach will have the following qualities: Excellent knowledge of their Sport e.g. to create training ideas and match winning tactics Coaches are often ex-players who want to stay involved in sport Improve Performance of individuals and as a team Analyse Performance of Players/Teams Good Communication skills

OFFICIALS e.g. coach, referee, umpire A good Official will have the following qualities: Know the Rules Be Observant and Decisive as they often need to make quick decisions Authoritative Confidence Keep Control of the game Enforce the rules

Volunteer – unpaid role within sport Give up their free time to do something unpaid. Many sports clubs and initiatives are run by volunteers alone. Volunteers are really important in sport. What roles can a volunteer take on? Brainstorm. Coaching Driving Washing netball bibs Refreshments Officiating/Scoring

Volunteer - A volunteer will have the following qualities… Volunteers need to be enthusiastic Work as part of a team Problem solving skills and leadership are always good qualities to have in a volunteer Discussion Task Why might someone volunteer in Sport? Discuss with a partner.

Roles & Opportunities within Sport Written Task 1.Think of a coach, captain, official or volunteer you know in sport. Explain the qualities and characteristics they have that makes them a effective in that role. Extension Task 2. Which of the 4 roles would you argue is the most important in sport and why?

Homework… Create a poster of a famous… o Participant o Team captain o Coach o Official o Volunter o Explain why they are good at their job and have the qualities to fulfil that role, and why.
