2010 Progress Report to UIC: GEOSS Air Quality Community of Practice (AQ CoP) Rudolf Husar (Point of Contact, rhusar@wustl.edu) Washington University in St. Louis AQ CoP 16 th GEOSS User Interface Committee Meeting Oslow, September 1, 2010
2
Air quality community spans efforts Monitor the atmosphere (surface, satellite and aerial systems), Model future atmospheric behavior and air quality conditions, Measure and estimate emissions of pollution and pollution forming gases and particles, Combine those information with socio-economic data for decision making analyses. Informing the Public Enforcing Standards Hemispheric Transport Real-time Service Regulatory Analysis Policy Assessment Atmospheric Composition Science & Education

AQ CoP Goal: Support the Development of a AQ Community GEO Process Functioning AQ System of Systems by 2015 Use of AQ Observations Tools & Methods that Work with Distribute Data Sharing Practical Knowledge Useful for Decision Making AQ Community of Practice By Connecting and Enabling
10
AQ CoP Challenges Broader Participation by Non- US members –More Support to Early Adaptors More AQ Data-As-Service –Incentives for data providers and mediators Acceptance by the AQ User Community –Developing Trust by the AQ Managers & Scientists
