Conflict in Literature Conflict: is the problem in the story that must be resolved. It is the basic struggle between opposing forces. Conflicts can be internal or external.

Person v. Person External conflict form of which occurs when a character has a struggle with an another character. Example: Rainsford v. Zaroff

Person v. Nature Form of an external conflict which occurs when a character has a problem with outside forces of nature: weather, animals, land, etc. Example: Man v. Wild (television show)

Person v. Society External conflict form of conflict in which a character disagrees or goes against societal values, laws, or beliefs. Example: Zaroff v. his “new game hunting”

Person v. Self Internal form of conflict in which the character is struggles his/her thoughts or ideas. Example: Rainsford v. his fear of being killed

Person v. Fate/Destiny An external conflict when a character has to deal with life and events ( in which he/ she has no control over) that happen unexpectedly along the way. Example: Appointment in Samarra
