What kind of work does your company do? The company I work for is a parent company which owns three other companies. These consist of two outfitting lodges, and a company which sells fishing rods and reels all over the world.

Have you ever had to travel with your work? Explain? Yes I have had to travel on a couple of occasions. In 2014, I travelled to New York to attend a dinner for the annual Atlantic Salmon Federation. The company I work for are great supporters to the salmon fishery and normally attend several functions throughout the year to support this cause.

What did you work at prior to Coordinates Capital Corporation? What made you leave this job? I worked with CIBC for 15 years prior to my current job. I decided to join Coordinates Capital when the opportunity arose. I felt this was good move as it was a chance to work with a private company which was something I always wanted to do.

What benefits do you get at your job? I have great benefits which include paid medical and dental insurance; 4 weeks vacation each year; also my company contributes to a pension plan for me.

What does an Office Manager do at Coordinates Capital? My job consists of doing payroll for all companies, making purchases for the lodges, invoicing customers for rods/reels and all accounting work.

How has your job affected your lifestyle? I am able to travel to the fishing lodges in Labrador with my family to fly fish for salmon and stay at the lodges.

How many people are employed at your work? At Coordinates Capital there are 6 employees including myself. The other companies employ 8 people each season, which runs from May to October.

Are you happy with your decision to leave your previous job with the bank and work with Coordinates Capital? Yes I am very pleased that I made this decision. It was difficult one and at first I was unsure that it was the best. However, after a few months of getting used to everything I was content and am now very happy with this role.

Do you have to deal with the public with your job? Yes I answer incoming calls and respond to email inquiries about the lodges in Labrador. I also deal with the payment arrangements as well as travel arrangements for all guests.

Do you have a work phone, how does it affect your job? Yes I do have a mobile phone. It allows me to answer any calls on the weekends or evenings, respond to emails and make travel arrangements if required.

What is your work environment like? My office is located in the TD building on Water Street. There are 3 employees including myself that work from there. The others work from there home, as they live outside the province.

When can you retire? I can retire in 2027 if I choose. As of right now I would like to work until I am 60.

What hours do you work? I work from 9-5 with an hour for lunch

Are your hours flexible? Yes, I can come later and leave early or if I have any type of appointment I can schedule in the day if necessary.

Did you have a job in high school? Yes I worked in a retail store while going to high school.

What would be the most difficult part of the job? Why? The most difficult part would be working after hours. I could receive an email or phone call at any time and sometimes I could be at a family dinner or something of that nature and it can be very frustrating.

What are the positive aspects of the job? Why? The positive aspects of the job would be the flexibility and freedom I have working in a private company. Given the times that I work after hours I have the opportunity to take time off during the day as needed without hesitation.
