Today’s Agenda O Introductions O Officer Duties, Communication & Delegation O Membership, Coaches & Travel O Cheat Sheets & Tips

Introductions O Find a partner & introduce yourselves O Tell the group about the other person: O Name O Sport Club O How/why they got involved with their club

Officer Duties O President O University’s main point of contact O Responsible for team’s overall organization O VP O Needs to assist president where needed, not necessarily when asked O Treasurer O Handle purchase requests & budget tracking O Assist with developing annual budget request

Officer Duties O Secretary O Maintain team records O Responsible for SCO paperwork O SCC Representative O Attend SCC meetings O Communicate SCC messages to team O Captain O A leader for the team during competitions O May be in charge of leading/scheduling practices

Delegation O Make a list of tasks O Who is currently responsible for those tasks? O How much time do your officers put in? O Do you understand what everyone does? O Does one person do too much? O It’s NOT for one person!

Communication O Consistent O Get all officers together on a regular basis O Pro: reduces duplication of efforts O Clear O Ask your officers to summarize their jobs O Pro: seeing what they don’t have covered yet O Concise O Keep it short and simple O Pro: get rid of those long boring meetings

Membership & Tryouts O Open Membership O Teams must be open to all FGCU students O Due to funding source: student fees O Tryouts O Tryouts for travel/competitive squad allowed O Options for open practices or other club involvement must be supplied to all students

Membership Forms O Membership Forms O 3 forms in total O Copies available in the SCO O Due by first day of practice or 9/26, which ever comes first

Club Coaches O Coaches are Independent Contractors O Not University Employees O It is NOT the coach’s job to run the club O Sport Clubs are student organizations - officers should serve as the liaison between their team and Sport Clubs Office O NEW - if you pay your coach a stipend: O a contract must be completed before the season begins to be eligible for funds

Team Travel O Travel tips in 2012-2013 Team Manual O Travel Forms O Due one week prior to any trip outside of Lee County O Late Forms: reimbursements are not permitted O Missing Forms: purchases will be canceled (hotel, car rental, etc.) and reimbursements are not permitted

Tips from Successful Clubs O Communication is key! O Helps keep everything well organized O Don’t wait until the last minute O Scrambling just causes stress O Get the whole club involved O It’s easier when everyone helps O Ask questions when you’re not sure O SCC leaders are on hand to answer

Reminders O Accident & Incident Reporting O What do you need to report? O Location: on campus, off campus or during trips O Event: accident or incident between students, visiting teams, club members, or spectators - at any FGCU related event O Call or email - we want to hear it from you first!

Reminders O Eagle Head logo can be used by Sport Clubs O All designs must be approved by SCO O EagleLink info will be sent out by next week O Next SCC Meeting on 9/26 in SU 213 O Membership Forms Due (3 total per student)
