3. ATTENTION Attention is an important topic for other cognitive processes, attention is an important factor in problem solving. When people read a description of a problem, they inspect certain important sentences several times and disregard other sentences that seem trivial. People make incorrect decisions when they pay attention on relatively unimportant information.

4. ATTENTION DIVIDED ATTENTION In divided attention task, people must attend to several simultaneous messages, responding to each as needed (Hawkins & Presson, 1986). SELECTIVE ATTENTION Selective attention is closely related to divided attention. In divided attention, people are instructed to pay equal attention to several tasks. In selective-attention tasks, people are confronted with two or more simultaneous tasks and are required to focus their attention on one while disregarding the others (Hawkins & Pressons, 1986). Selective attention studies often show that people notice little about the irrelevant tasks. In general, the research on selective attention falls into two basic categories.
