4 Main objective of PLATINA Establish a professional network bringing together all relevant actors concerned to assist in the implementation of the NAIADES Action Programme for Inland Waterway Transport in Europe –Provision of technical expertise and support –Provision of organisational, infrastructural and financial support –Platform deals with areas that require non-legislative, coordinative actions at the European level ► PLATINA – Platform for the Implementation of NAIADES

5 PLATINA in a nutshell PLATINA is a project within the 7 th Framework Programme for Research, Technology Development and Demonstration PLATINA is aimed at coordinating and supporting research activities and policies PLATINA runs from June 2008 to May 2012 Consortium consists of 23 partners from 9 different countries PLATINA is organised around the five NAIADES action areas (Markets, Fleet, Jobs&Skills, Image, Infrastructure) PLATINA is strategically guided by key industrial stakeholders, associations and Member States administrations

12 Introduction RIS Directive applies to 12+1 countries (RO, BG, HU, SK, PL, CZ, AT, DE, NL, BE, LU, FR and HR (as candidate country)) Objective of activity: Summarize the Status of River Information Services by means of a questionnaire Questionnaire distributed in December 2010 14 countries responded until end of March 2011 –Approx. 3.800 km of Class IV –Approx. 10.500 km of Class Va and higher –Approx. 13.000 vessels

13 Notices to Skippers (NtS) Provision of Fairway & Traffic, Water Related and Ice Messages –12/2010: 7 fully operational, 2 pilot, 4 in preparation –12/2012: 10 fully operational, 2 pilot, 1 in preparation Provision of full text message and code format Usage of 3 different versions of XSD

14 Vessel Tracking & Tracing Shore-based infrastructure of Class Va and higher –12/2010: 1.600 km fully operational, 950 km pilot –12/2012: 4.300 km fully operational, 550 km pilot –Total length: 10.500 km Shore-based infrastructure of Class IV –12/2010: 50 km fully operational, 200 km pilot –12/2012: 500 km fully operational, 200 km pilot –Total length: 3.800 km AIS equipment program –12/2010: 5.500 transponders provided –12/2012: 12.500 transponders provided –Total approx. 13.000 vessels

18 RIS Index Object of highest and high priority are not prepared in a harmonized way Use of RIS Index for VTT, ERI and NtS not yet in all countries

19 International Data Exchange Trend towards international exchange of RIS information in order to provide enhanced services Notices to Skippers Vessel Tracking and Tracing Cargo and Voyage Data Electronic Navigational Charts RIS Index Hull Data Quality of Information Services becomes increasingly important

20 On board equipment According to information from expert groups, RIS equipment is estimated on board of vessels: 6.000 Inland ECDIS Viewers Electronic Reporting 98% of the container vessels are reporting electronically 30% of the tanker vessel 5% of the dry cargo. 5.450 Inland AIS transponders (see before) Total approx. 13.000 vessels
