2 Biodiversity??

3 Ecosystem An environment that includes all the biotic organisms (living things, like plants, animals, and bacteria) and the abiotic factors (non-living things, like temperature) that affect them.

4 Name a familiar ecosystem. List some of the living things in it.

5 Riparian Ecosystem The ecosystem where land and a river or stream meet each other.

6 The Baltimore region has a variety of streams, such as this region of the Gwynns Falls near Carroll Park.

7 Storm water retention ponds at Carroll Park/Park at Dead Run

8 Gunpowder River in Monkton from the NCR Trail a more rural setting north of the Beltway.

9 Pools vs. Riffles Riffle- fast moving, shallow water, higher amount of oxygen Pool- slow to no movement, deeper water, lower amount of oxygen

12 Watershed: is an area of land where water from rain or snow that melts drains downhill into a body of water, such as a river, lake, reservoir, wetland, sea or ocean. What is a Watershed? Where would you expect water to flow from and to?
