2 Weapons Specialist During World War 1, new weapons were introduced and caused more death and destruction.

3 Mustard Gas Mustard Gas was first used in September of 1917 by the German Army. It was considered to be the deadliest of all the poisonous gasses. It was odorless and took about twelve hours before symptoms take affect. Symptoms are blistering of skin, sore eyes, and vomiting. It also attacked the bronchial tubes by stripping off the mucus membrane. It took about four to five weeks before you died. Mustard gas killed about 4,100 people.

4 Flamethrower Flamethrowers were first used in 1914 by the Germans They were eventually adopted by the French and British in 1915 Some of the first Flamethrowers weighed two tons each The flamethrower spread the fire by shooting burning fuel There was also a smaller version of the flamethrower The small flame thrower can shoot about eighteen meters

5 Machine Gun Machine Guns were used when the war first began It was positioned on a tri- pod They weighed thirty to sixty kilograms They took a gun crew of four to six people They also rapidly overheated

6 Barbed Wire Barbed Wire had some affects on World War 1 It was used to prevent motion with deadly consequences The first U.S. patent was issued to Lucion B. Smith

7 Armored Tank No one person is credited for the design of the tank It was first used in January of 1916 The tank was first used by the UK Eventually, other countries made their own version of the tank

8 Airplanes & Airplane Bombs When the war first started, people were unsure if airplanes should be allowed in the war They were first armed with machine guns Eventually, planes were made that could hold two to three bombs Then in order for the planes to be effective, they had to make many of them Over 70 types of planes were used during the war Airplanes were not a huge help for anyone in the war

9 Cannons In world war 1 cannons were used to great effects The Paris Gun was a cannon used by the Germans in WWI It was capable of shooting targets more than 76 mi. away The Cannon was the most deadliest of all the WWI weapons, causing 75% of all the deaths in the war

10 Land Mines Land Mines are blast devices that were used in World War 1 They are usually set off by the victim Land mines are mostly used as an area denial weapon Removing land mines is time consuming and extremely dangerous

11 Submarines Submarines were used a lot in WWI They could be used for attacking enemy ships, blockades, or for protecting aircraft carriers U-Boats were the first German Submarines to be used in the First Battle of the Atlantic The submarines used missiles as their weapons
