Special Parallelograms
3
Rhombus Properties Activity 1. Give each student a rhombus (or have students draw their own using a straightedge) 2. Trace rhombus with labels and diagonals on a quarter piece of patty paper. 3. Place brad through the diagonal intersection. 4. Rotate Rhombus ABCD 180° so it maps onto itself. What do we notice??
4
Rhombus vs. Parallelogram What do we notice about the properties of a rhombus and of a parallelogram when it is rotated onto itself? They have the same properties! PARALLELOGRAMS RHOMBUS
5
What other properties do Rhombi have? BISECT PERPENDICULAR
7
Rectangle Properties Activity 1. Give each student a rectangle 2. Trace rectangle with labels and diagonals on a quarter piece of patty paper. 3. Place brad through the diagonal intersection. 4. Rotate Rectangle ABCD 180° so it maps onto itself. What do we notice??

Rectangle vs. Parallelogram vs. Rhombus What do we notice about the properties of a rectangle and of a parallelogram when it is rotated onto itself? They have the same properties! Do rectangles have the same properties as rhombi? No, because rhombi have to have 4 congruent sides. PARALLELOGRAMS RHOMBUSRECTANGLE
9
What other properties do Rectangles have? Using another rectangle, measure the lengths of the diagonals. The diagonals of a rectangle are CONGRUENT
11
Square Properties Activity 1. Give each student a square 2. Trace square with labels and diagonals on a quarter piece of patty paper. 3. Place brad through the diagonal intersection. 4. Rotate Square ABCD 180° so it maps onto itself. What do we notice??
12
Square vs. Parallelogram, Rhombus, and Rectangle YES
