Chinese Foreign Relations3 2. Course Description This class provides an overview of Chinese foreign relations from 1949 through the early 21st century. This class provides an overview of Chinese foreign relations from 1949 through the early 21st century. The first six weeks of class presents historical development and improvement of Chinese diplomatic thoughts from Mao to Deng, Jiang and Hu and allows a comphrensive understanding of the foreign policy structures, principles, general practices, and characteristics of China's foreign policy. Chinese Foreign Relations4 The second six weeks is devoted to exploring China's foreign relations with specific regions and countries, such as the USA, EU,Russia, Japan and other neighbors. This course will be run in a style with emphasis on critical reading and active class participation. a) Consistent attendance and class participation. b) Mid-term short article (3 pages, double-spaced and typed) or other assignments on selected readings and/or special topics. c) A Term article (4-5 pages, double-spaced and typed). Late articles will NOT be accepted. d) A quiz with phrases, comments and a short article at the end of semester. e) Grades will be based on class participation (10%), critical reading articles (30%), and the final quiz (60%). 3, Course 3, Course Requirements
