Retrieving Information
Recognition: Memory retrieval in which a person identifies an object, idea, or situation as one he or she has or has not experienced before (e.g. “Have you seen this?”) Recall: Memory retrieval in which a person reconstructs previously learned material (e.g. “What have you seen?”)

Retrieving Information
Reconstructive Process: The alteration of a recalled memory that may be simplified, enriched, or distorted depending on the individual (e.g. car accident: contacted, hit, bumped, smashed) Confabulation: The act of filling in memory gaps Eidetic Memory: The ability to remember with great accuracy visual information on the basis of short-term exposure “Photographic Memory”

Review What is the difference between recognition and recall? Which is a higher-level memory process? Why? Which is more subject to error? Why? In what way is memory a reconstructive process?
