Essential questions: why plants are important?

Unit questions: What are the parts of the flower? What are the functions of the different parts of the flower? How fertilization of flowers take place?

Content questions: How does a seed become a new plant? How does a seed turn into a fruits? Is that important to know the different kinds of plant? And why?

Learning objective: At the end of the unit, the students will be able to: Identify the different parts of the plants and its function. Explain how fertilization in plants takes place. Conduct an experiment regarding on how insects pollinate the flowers.

Content standard Conduct an experiment to determine how an agent or insects carry the pollen from flower to flower. Express opinions by writing a summary of presentation. Analyze and explain how the plants are important in our environment.

Unit summary: The world of plants (Science, Grade 4): Students become botanist in investigating the importance and functions of the plants in our environment. Students will identify and describe the internal and external parts of the flower. Students will have to make a multimedia presentation on how plants pollinate and fertilize. And after presenting, each group will going to make a brochure for their project and will also work for a reflection based on the presentation.

Week 1 and 2: Discuss the parts of the plants and its function. Roots Stem Leaves Flower Fruit

Week 3 and 4: Conduct an experiment to determine how an agent or insects carry the pollen from flower to flower. And explain to students about the task that they will be doing throughout the project.

Week 5: The teacher assesses the students work if it is appropriate. Check the project if it already done.
