2  Grant’s successful push down Mississippi left only one major CSA stronghold - Vicksburg  His forces surround the city (blockade) for 6 weeks

3  No food or supplies came in and the Confederates ran out of food  Resorted to eating dogs and rats!!  CSA forced to surrender on July 4, 1863

4  Victory give Union control of the Mississippi River  Cut off Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas from rest of Confederacy (split Confederacy in two) VICKSBURG

5  Lee was hoping to achieve a victory on Union soil  June 1863 Lee crosses into PA heading for Harrisburg (a railroad center) but ran into Union troops in the small town of Gettysburg

7  Pickett’s Charge - Direct assault on middle of the Union line - Disaster for Confederacy - By the end of the battle over 1/3 of Lee’s army is crushed - Leads to CSA retreat PUSH!! Wasn’t my idea..
