1. T HE A MERICAN C IVIL W AR. - By Madisen And Chaas.

2. T HE C IVIL W AR. After many years of disagreement, the North and South decided to take action, and that’s when the civil war began. It was a tragic war including several battles and several losses. It was from 1861-1865, and is still remembered to this day.

3. C ONFEDERATE AND U NION S TATES During the civil war the USA was divided into two parts, half was the Union and the other half was the Confederate. The union didn’t want slavery and they wanted the country to become united again. The Confederates were fighting to keep slavery. Also there were a couple states that weren’t fully declared as a confederate or union state.

4. B ATTLE O F B ULL R UN ( FIRST ) Union leaders wanted to capture Richmond. About 30,000 union troops marched to Virginia from Washington D.C. On the way they met a small confederate army called Bull Run. At first the union seemed to be winning but the confederates fought back with determination. Later, more confederate troops joined the General Thomas Jackson and the union worried and went back to Washington. Than Richmond was saved. This battle was July 21, 1861.

5. S HILOH This is a picture of the generals during the Shiloh battle. There were many, and each played an Important part. This battle took place April 6-7, 1862. The North lost 13,000 soldiers and the south lost 11,400 soldiers.

6. S EVEN D AYS ’ B ATTLES The battle of Seven Days’ battles was a Series of six major battles over the seven days from June 26 th through July 1 st 1862 near Richmond Virginia.

7. F REDRICKSBURG The battle of Fredricksburg was fought December 13, 1862. 5,000 of the Confederate’s Army were killed and 12,000 of the Unions army died. The Northern attack was defeated, And it wasn’t Looking so good For them either.

8. B ATTLE O F B ULL R UN ( SECOND ) Next came along the second battle of Bull Run and this picture shows the place that the second battle of Bull Run took place, which was at Prince William County, Virginia Near the city of Manassas on August 29-30, 1862.

9. T HE B ATTLE OF A NTIETAM The next battle was the battle of Antietam and this picture shows the battle, during the Civil War. More men were killed or wounded at this battle than any other battle they say this was the bloodiest day in our American history. It was fought near Sharpsburg Maryland, September of 1862.

10. C HANCELLORSVILLE Next came, in April 1863, General Joseph Hooker decided to attack the Army of Northern Virginia that was trapped on the south side of the Rappahonnock River. The Northern attack was defeated again but both sides lost, about 11,000 soldiers.

11. V ICKSBURG ( SEIGE OF ) The battle of Vicksburg was the final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign, on May 22 – July 4, 1863. Finally the Northern attack was successful! But they still lost 10,000 men.

12. G ETTYSBURG Next just a couple Months later was the battle of Gettysburg. It was one of the deadliest battles and was fought on July 1-3, 1863. Fought by the town of Gettysburg Pennsylvania.

13. C HATTANOOGA The next battle was fought in Georgia, This battle was from September 19-20 1863.

14. C HICKAMAUGA Than there was The battle of Chickamauga and it was fought September 19 th and 20 th of 1863, it marked the end of a Union offensive in some of Tennessee and Georgia, called the Chickamauga Campaign.

15. S TONES R IVER Than there was the battle of Stones River was fought from Dec. 31 st 1862 to Jan. 2 nd 1863 Tennessee.

16. W ILDERNESS Than came, the battle of Wilderness was fought May 5 th 6 th and 7 th in 1864 both armies suffered heavy casualties a harbinger of a Bloody war of attrition by Grant against Lee’s army and more.

17. S POTSYLVANIA Than came the battle of Spotsylvania, it was the second major battle of Lt. Gen Ulysses S. Grant’s in 1864. It Was on May 10-12, 1864. The Unions battle was successful.

18. C OLD H ARBOR Coming to an end of the civil war was, the battle of Cold Harbor was in the year of 1864. It was one of the final battle of Ulysses S. Grant’s Overland Campaign. Thousand of union soldiers were killed or wounded in the hopeless attack against the south. Ulysses S. Grant said to the battles, "I have always regretted that the last assault at Cold Harbor was ever made. I might say the same thing of the assault of the 22d of May, 1863, at Vicksburg. At Cold Harbor no advantage whatever was gained to compensate for the heavy loss we sustained."

19. W INCHESTER Finally came, the battle of Winchester was fought on May 25 th 1864 around Fredrick county Virginia. The northern attack was successful, and this was the final battle.

20. G ENERAL U LYSSES S. G RANT Grant, was fighting to keep the army together as best as he could and trying so hard, he was able to succeed and win the war, him and his outstanding army! This is a picture of Ulysses S. Grant. He was the General of the Union States.

21. G ENERAL R OBERT E. L EE Lee was fighting to keep his army together, and allow having slaves all over the US. He had a very good army too though, and some of the best leaders in the US With good work he came close to winning. This is a picture of General Robert E. Lee. He was the General of the Confederate states.

22. A BRAHAM L INCOLN Abraham Lincoln was the president of the USA during the civil war. He promised to not pick sides although he always wanted to have a united//whole country.

23. T HE R EUNITED U NITED S TATES Finally after four years of hard work for both the Union and the Confederacy, the Union had won and the USA was once Again united. Freedom was also a right for all slaves in the US.
