Civil War Facts The war began when Confederate warships bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861. The war ended in Spring, 1865. Robert E. The Battle of Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863 Confederate causalities in dead, wounded and missing were 28,000 out of 75,000. Union casualties were 23,000 out of 88,000. One of the deadliest wars in U.S. history Stopped the south from advancing to the North Gettysburg is also the place for Abraham Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address

Sherman’s March November 1864 – December 1864 The march started in Atlanta, Georgia and ended in Savannah, Georgia General Sherman destroyed military targets as well as industry infrastructure, and civilian properties. Total devastation! Also called the March to the Sea Purpose: Frighten Georgian’s to abandon Confederate cause

The Civil War Ends The Civil War ended on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse The 13 th Amendment was ratified abolishing slavery proposed by President Abraham Lincoln who was later assassinated by John Wilkes Booth
