Nouns, Proper Nouns, Noun – a person, place, thing, or idea. Eg. Firefighter, suburbs, tiger, freedom. Proper Noun – the name of a specific person, place, thing, or idea. Eg. Scott Thompson, Canada, Lassie, Quiet Revolution.

Pronouns Pronoun – a word that takes the place of a noun. Can be personal Eg. I, we, you, they, he, she. Can be possessive: Eg. My, your, ours, hers, mine, theirs, its, etc. Can be objective: Me, you, him, her, it, us, them.

Verbs Action words. Eg. run, hit, see,

Adjectives Words that describe a noun or pronoun. Eg. The fat man. Eg. He is so goofy. There are comparative adjectives (eg. better, worse) and superlative adjectives (eg. best, worst)

Adverbs Words that describe verbs. The boy went slowly and thoughtfully through the questions. Adverbs usually tell three things about the verbs: how, where, or when. Eg. The book on the piano fell with a loud bang. (This is an adverb phase).

Conjunctions Connect words and groups of words. They join two or more parts of a sentence that are connected. Eg. and, but, for, or, so, yet, because, neither, nor,... Eg. I liked not only the story, but I also liked the characters.
