2 Our objectives To explore the use of e-portfolios as a collection tool outside the VLE To give students an opportunity to use the familiar context of technology to explore the potential of an e-portfolio to collect together a range of evidence in an expanded range of formats for assessment To provide opportunities for reflection on personal and professional development

3 Our context Professional Development course 6 sessions through the year PDP, study skills etc leading to summative assignment 15 first year students – our personal tutees

4 What we did ‘Traditional’ introduction to PDP Introduction to PebblePad over two/three sessions…learning together!  Logging in  Personalisation  Exploring resources  Sharing assets

5 Students’ use of PebblePad Amanda’s personalisation and learning journal Cherie’s personalisation and layout of work Jessica’s academic achievements

6 The problems we encountered Only being one step ahead! Lack of time to bring students together Overlap with our own VLE Nature of our PDP  summative  underdeveloped

7 What we liked Opportunity for reflection Personalisation Selective asset sharing

8 Where next? Training for ourselves! Review of PDP practice A continuing trial with this cohort A further trial with a new cohort?

9 But our questions remain… Can an e-portfolio support our students’ learning? Is it a technology too far?
