A.OBJECTIVES The following design problem has been developed to test and evaluate the problem‑solving skills of Technological Design - Architectural students. Some expectations and outcomes of the project are: 1. The proposal will emphasize the following: research and information gathering analysis of residential space design programming efficient design space use costing vs. design Designing process : Form vs. Function

To show evidence of research, documentation and presentation skills, such as; Interpolation of human space requirements presentation drawing skills computer assisted drawing skills collaborative design discussions interpolation of Commercial Ontario Building Code – 2006 – Part 3 Division B or Part 9 : Housing

You should keep in mind that this is a sketch problem which is to be solved within a limited period of time. Allocate your time accordingly Refer to the Rubrics and Project Parameters/Documentation Requirements

OVERVIEW - STATEMENT OF THE DESIGN PROBLEM You own a piece of land on a lakeshore near Huntsville. budgetary allowance of $150,000 for the cottage and deck. Other funds are budgeted for landscaping and road access, but these items are not part of your design proposal. construction costs, which are based on the floor area of the dwelling (floor area dependant upon costs outlined). ◦ $125 SF BUILDING ◦ $20.00 SF DECK You must not exceed this cost allowance in your design and you must state the individual cost allocations and the total cost of the building on your drawings. OVERVIEW - STATEMENT OF THE DESIGN PROBLEM| Design a two car detached garage with a room above for storage. The access to the second storey may be by an interior or exterior stair. The client would like to have presentation drawings and either a: ◦ detailed structural model (no exterior finish) OR ◦ CAD 3D rendering of your garage design with a detailed Massing Exterior Model

OVERVIEW - STATEMENT OF THE DESIGN PROBLEM You have been asked to design a condominium SALES OFFICE and a luxury ONE BEDROOM MODEL that has a combined total of 3,548 square feet/330 square meters of interior space. EXISTING The ‘ EXISTING ’ complex is situated on the south shore of a large salt water bay with all one hundred and sixty units having a bay view to the north. The project will include all the amenities for resort living including a concierge, central valet and laundry services, club house, pools, whirlpools, saunas, gymnasiums, tennis courts, bike paths, etc.

The following design problem is a ◦ Final Summative Evaluation that will be ◦ weighted at 30% of the term mark ◦ problem and brief will be submitted in it’s final ’printed and plotted’ form on 8.5 x 11 paper as per Design Brief, ◦ CAD and ECI outline standards. ◦ The plotted design problem is due on Thursday January 24th. ◦ Late submissions up to one day will be penalized at 10% per day, up to 30%. ◦ No submissions will be accepted after Friday January 25 th.
