AIM: How do we solve quadratics by graphing? Do Now: Decide if each of the following quadratics have a maximum or a minimum. 1.y = -16x 2 + 4x 2.y = 4x 2 – 3x + 5
2
HW Review: Regents Review 12 is due on Tuesday. Pass forward your completed test corrections which are due today.

BIG IDEAS: Today, we are going to solve quadratic equations. This means that we are going to take the equations that we graph and try to figure out the value of x, when we set the equation equal to 0. “When y is zero, what is the value of x?”

Notes: A quadratic equation can have two, one, or no real-number solutions. roots of the equationzeros of the function The solutions of a quadratic equation and the related x-intercepts are often called roots of the equation or zeros of the function.
6
Types of Graphical Solutions for Quadratics X y 1.No solution 2.One solution 3.Two solutions Solutions are roots, or zeros, or x- intercepts.
7
Guided Practice: How many solutions does this quadratic have? What are the solutions to this quadratic? x = -1 and x =3
