Various types of children Natural children( children born out of wedlock) Natural-recognised children( children born of wedlock but recognized by the father) Legitimate children( children born in wedlock)

The authority of the children In case of a legal representative / guardianship( guardian, co-guardian, part time guardian, third guardian) In case of Parental authority

Replacing of the parents or legal representatives Sickness and death(by temporary guardian or third guardian) If parents can not take care and give them the education they need(by foster home, by foreign homes, adoption, Bureau for family and legal affairs of the ministry of justice and police)

Successful experience The law concerning parental access Accept in 2002 Gives the child the opportunity to have contact with the parents,who is not in charge or if the parents are in a conflict situation

Lesson learned 1.Suriname has good and plenty regulations protecting children 2.Because of movement in the world and in accordance with treaty of children. Some of them needs some changes 3.Protecting of the children is high priority in Suriname but still the changes are made too slowly, but certainly. 4.The recent legislation concerning children in Suriname: a.Parents who don’t have the guardianship get access to their children. b.Recognized children get the same treatment as children born out of wedlock

Technical support requirements 1.Not enough judges especially judges in procedures concerning only children (none). Negative effect: parents or guardians are getting released and deprived from their authority or guardianship too fast, instead of inform, leading or advise them how to do better with their children. 2.We have only one guardianship institution. Monopoly-position this have negative effects
