Controlled Assessment This presentation gives general guidance on controlled assessment for GCSE Computer Science. And linking this to GCSE ICT.
3
A Reminder - This is from our ‘Getting Ready to Teach’ presentation: Practical programming – Assesses Topics 1 & 2 – Single context, 3 tasks – 15 hours, medium control – A new task published in January each year – Choice of three programming languages – No internet access – Digital submission 2
4
Remember - Level of Control (see p20 Spec) Task setting: High Level – Pearson sets the task Task Taking: Medium Control – Students work alone – Must be supervised – Teachers can help students to understand rubrics, assessment criteria and controlled conditions – Students’ work must be saved and stored 3
5
Getting ready for the Controlled Assessment - Summary Know the Specification Use the Sample Assessment Material Use the Exemplar, and the Mark Scheme Take a holistic approach Use Moderators’ reports 4
6
Know the Specification The CA covers Topics 1 and 2 But remember the exam paper will cover ALL Topics – Over the lifetime of the spec 5
7
Use the Sample Assessment Material Prepare them – So there are no surprises Can they do everything asked for in the requirements? – i.e. tick them off? Can they follow the guidance on how to save/present their work? 6
8
Use the Exemplar Mark Scheme There is no reason why you can’t go through this with your students Do a mapping exercise – Task – Specification – Mark scheme 7
9
Holistic approach to marking Where does a task ‘fit’ in the mark scheme? – Which level? Make sure you can justify your marks – use the marking criteria 8
10
Use Moderators’ reports These will be available for June 2015 series – Use the support on the website But you can have a look at other exams to see if there are any ‘patterns’ you can identify – Previous Moderators’ reports for ICT 9
11
GCSE ICT Same as for Computer Science Resources to help you have been building up over the product cycle – Lesson resources – Exemplars – Past training content ○ Feedback ○ Standardisation – Moderators’ reports ○ Your own centre reports And use the Controlled Assessment Teacher Support Book 2012 10
